In this workshop, students will learn about coding through different electronic parts such as Arduino boards, Breadboards, LED, and wires. They can learn how connect these devices to computers and programming them using software such as miniBloq. Students will be able to control robots as well. In fact, through coding, students will improve their knowledge and even increase their creativity by writing different commands.

If you like coding, programming and working with computers, this is the workshop for you!

1. Basic Programming with Microbit Workshop (1 hour)
Touted as the next era of digital literacy, coding is often called the language that needs to be taught to our kids. But how do we get kids interested? Using microbits, we get kids excited about coding with the principle of instant gratification. A simple drag and drop feature allows kids to see the result of their coding instantaneously and fosters their curiosity to learn and do more with the devices. At the end of the workshop, we challenge the kids to write their names in programme or even make their own game.

2. Upcycle Cloth Pouch Workshop (1 hour)
Fast fashion is the second largest cause of waste on our planet, and the problem is still growing. The problem is twofold - a lack of awareness and a lack of access to basic fashion education. In our workshop, we explain to participants the major issue with the fashion industry and what we can do as consumers to make the situation better. At the end of the workshop, we take participants through making an upcycled pouch using discarded materials. Who said that the only use for old clothes is washcloths?

Discover a world of REAL learning through a host of stimulating activities that provide great fun and insight on Biology, History, Math, and more!

Come and experience:

Green Screen Corner
Explore the Skeleton (human anatomy) - featuring the Human Anatomy Atlas 2019
Sketch a Propaganda Poster (using sketchpad apps) - where students will create World War propaganda posters
What’s the Area? (using Geometry augmented reality or AR) - play with different shapes and learn how to calculate area and perimeter in real-time

During our fun workshop session, students will learn how to build cool robots using bricks, cells, wheels, sensors, electric motors, servos and much more! Normally, we get students to build an “Electric Fan” using our kits as an introductory workshop. However, we have many others to choose from, e.g. Soccer Bot (if all the participants are >8 years old as this is more challenging to do within 1 hour for younger participants) or Battle Bots. However in order to run Battle Bots effectively, we need a bit more time for them to battle it out!

Release your creativity and join Beaconhouse Malaysia for their Brush lettering workshop. Brush lettering is a beautiful craft that can be used to design your own cards and artwork. It will enhance any creative piece and give joy to those who experience the free flow of the brush. During the class children will experience the beauty and flow of using the brush pen, learn and practise the basic strokes and alphabet lettering. They will create a beautiful and individual take home piece. No previous experience is necessary, just come along and create a beautiful piece of artwork.

There will be a worksheet provided for children to practise writing letters. The session will be divided into two and it's suitable for children aged 9 to 12 years old (max 10 children each session). Each session will take up to half an hour. Children will be guided to design a card and to write a quote related to their future/educational which they can bring home as a souvenir as well
