Theme: People Who Inspire Me 

The 2nd PISF Poetry Slam will take place during the 13th Private & International School Fair in Kuala Lumpur on 22 and 23 June 2019.

A poetry slam is a competition where participants perform and recite original work. The 2nd PISF Poetry Slam 2019 aims to promote the creative use of the English language through the medium of poetry. The competition is also a platform to showcase the talent of young students in writing and performing!


Terms and Conditions: Round 1 (Online Submission)

All participants of the 2nd PISF Poetry Slam 2019 agree to abide by the following rules, terms and conditions.

  1. The 2nd PISF Poetry Slam 2019 is open to students from 11 to 14 years old.

  2. The competition is open to individuals in two age categories - Category A (11 to 12 years old) and Category B (13 to 14 years old).

  3. Individuals who are interested to participate in the competition must fill in the registration form on the PISF website.

  4. Each participant is allowed to submit ONE poem only. The poem must be submitted in the registration form itself.

  5. Poems must be original works of the participants. Previously published and self-published poems are not allowed.

  6. The poem must convey the theme, People Who Inspire Me, effectively.

  7. The poem must not exceed 300 words.

  8. The poem must be written in English.

  9. The poem will be judged based on language, style, vocabulary and relevance to the theme.

  10. The submission deadline is 5pm, 6 May 2019 (Monday).

  11. Shortlisted participants* will be contacted via email on 24 May 2019 (Friday).

  12. Each participant must reply to the email to confirm their attendance at the PISF Poetry Slam 2019 held on 22 & 23 June 2019 at Mid Valley Exhibition Centre by 31 May 2019 (Friday)

*Shortlisted participants will be invited to compete at the 2nd PISF Poetry Slam 2019 at the 13th Private & International School Fair on 22 & 23 June 2019.

Terms and Conditions: Round 2 (On-site Competition)

All participants of the 2nd PISF Poetry Slam 2019 agree to abide by the following rules, terms and conditions.

Registration

  1. Participants must bring along their proof of identity and register by the given times on the day of the contest.

  2. Registration will take place at the Atrium of the Mid Valley Exhibition Centre.

  3. Registration will start at 11am onwards. Those who arrive after the competition has started will be disqualified.

  4. Participants must be accompanied by a legal guardian or parent.

Performance

  1. Participants must perform the poem which has been submitted in Round 1 (Online Submission). Participants are not allowed to make changes to the poem or perform another poem during the competition. 

  2. Participants must be dressed in smart casual attire (school uniforms are also accepted). No shorts or slippers are allowed.

  3. Participants are not allowed to use props, costumes or musical instruments.

  4. The order of performance is according to the alphabetical order of participants’ names. 

  5. Participants must recite their poem from memory.

  6. Participants are given a maximum of three minutes for the performance. A 10-second grace period is given before the performance for sound check. Points will be deducted from the final score for exceeding the time limit.

  7. Participants will be scored based on level of preparedness, volume and emotion, fluency and clarity, body language and eye contact as well as poem content. 

  8. Winners will be determined by a panel of judges on the same day. The judges’ decisions are final.

  9. All participants must be present for the prize-giving ceremony for their respective categories. The prize-giving ceremony will be held on the same day.

1st prize: RM1,000

2nd prize: RM750

3rd prize: RM500
