The PISF Creative Kids Contest, a poster design contest where participants had to design a poster and colour it using materials provided by Faber-Castell Malaysia only, was held on 8 November 2014 in conjunction with the 4th Private & International School Fair in KL. The theme for the contest was ‘My School’ so the artwork could feature anything relevant to their school (teachers, students, classes etc).

The contest was opened to three age categories:
 

• Category A: 5 to 6 years old
• Category B: 7 to 8 years old
• Category C: 9 to 10 years old

Participants were given 2 hours to complete their artwork. Once time was up, all artwork were collected and reviewed by the judges based on five aspects: originality, resource utilisation, creativity, presentation, and relevance to theme.

Prizes were awarded to participants according to their age groups. There was one winner from each age group from 5 to 10 years old with the exception of the 9-year-old group which had two winners.

All contest materials and prizes were sponsored by Faber-Castell Malaysia.

The PISF Spelling Wiz Contest, a spelling contest where participants had to spell out words read out by the judges of the contest, was held on 9 November 2014 in conjunction with the 4th Private & International School Fair in KL. Each round consisted of 10 words and 15 seconds were allocated for one word. Participants had to spell words out of a published list of words on this website 2 weeks before the contest for the first three rounds. After these three rounds, participants were asked to spell words that were not published on the website. Participants were eliminated when they misspelt words. The judges determined if the words were spelt correctly.

The contest was opened to four age categories:
 

• Category A: 5 to 6 years old
• Category B: 7 to 8 years old
• Category C: 9 to 10 years old
• Category D: 11 to 12 years old

Rules and regulations applied to all categories but different word lists were given to each category to spell. 

The contest was divided into two sessions:
 

• Session 1: Categories A & B
• Session 2: Categories C & D

Participants were not allowed to refer to parents, accompanying person(s) or any materials for help. They were also not allowed to interact with fellow participants during the contest.

Prizes were awarded to the top 3 winners from each category whereas the rest of the participants were awarded consolation prizes. 

We were happy to have two native English speakers as judges for this contest.
