Introducing the PISF Poetry Slam 2018!

The first ever PISF Poetry Slam will take place during the 11th Private & International School Fair in Kuala Lumpur on 23 and 24 June 2018.

A poetry slam is a competition where participants perform and recite original work. The PISF Poetry Slam 2018 aims to promote the creative use of the English language through the medium of poetry. The competition is also a platform to showcase the talent of young students in writing and performing!


Submissions for the poetry slam are closed. Shortlisted participants have been notified on 1 June by email.

Shortlisted participants will be invited to compete at the PISF Poetry Slam 2018 at the 11th Private & International School Fair on 23 & 24 June 2018. Candidates in Category A (ages 9 to 11) will compete on 23 June 2018. Candidates in Category B (ages 12 to 14) will compete on 24 June 2018.


Terms and Conditions: Round 2 (On-site Competition)

All participants of the PISF Poetry Slam 2018 agree to abide by the following rules, terms and conditions.

 

Registration

  1. Participants must verify their registration on the day of the contest by bringing along their proof of identity.
  2. Registration will take place outside the Talk Room located in the Atrium of the Mid Valley Exhibition Centre.
  3. Registration will start at 11am. Those who arrive after the competition has started will be disqualified.
  4. Participants must be accompanied by a legal guardian or parent.

Performance

  1. Participants must perform the poem which has been submitted in Round 1 (Online Submission). Participants are not allowed to make changes to the poem or perform another poem during the competition. 
  2. Participants must be dressed in smart casual attire (school uniforms are also accepted). No shorts or slippers are allowed.
  3. Participants are not allowed to use props, costumes or musical instruments.
  4. The order of performance is according to the alphabetical order of participants’ names. 
  5. Participants must recite their poem from memory.
  6. Each participant is given a maximum of three minutes for the performance. A 30-second grace period is given before the performance for sound check. Points will be deducted from the final score for exceeding the time limit.
  7. Participants will be scored based on level of preparedness, volume and emotion, fluency and clarity, body language and eye contact as well as poetic conventions.
  8. Winners will be determined by a panel of judges on the same day. The judges’ decisions are final.
  9. All participants must be present for the prize-giving ceremony for their respective categories. The prize-giving ceremony will be held on the same day.
