Introduction

The Prince of Wales Island International School (POWIIS) was established in September 2011. In 7 years, POWIIS has grown to over 500 students. With its ideals firmly rooted in the British education system, POWIIS emphasises that academic endeavour is fundamental and provides an environment where all children are treated as individuals.

The boarding and day school provides a happy and wholesome environment which helps children to learn. An effective pastoral system supports students, with every student having their personal tutor. The tutor monitors academic progress and takes responsibility for the overall wellbeing of the student. Tutors meet with their tutees each day, and at least once a week will discuss overall progress, providing encouragement and advice.

The Prince of Wales Island International Primary School, POWIIS Primary, will open in September 2019 on a five acre site on Jalan Loh Poh Heng in Tanjung Bungah.

Every feature of the school, both inside and outside is designed with the children’s learning at the forefront of the architectural vision. From the layout of the spacious classrooms to the playground areas, the school will offer the perfect mix to suit all learners from the early years to the Year 6 pupils. There will be specialist areas in science, music, the arts and sport which will include a swimming pool and a multipurpose hall. The school will be teaching the English National Curriculum with the early years pupils (aged 3 to 4 years old) following the Foundation Stage before moving on to Key Stage 1 (aged 5 to 6 years old) and Key Stage 2 (aged 7 to 11 years old). Specialist languages will also be taught in the language classrooms provided including Mandarin, Bahasa Malaysia and French.

There will also be on offer an extensive range of after school activities which will provide after school care solutions to working parents as well encouraging confidence, independence and a breadth of interest in the pupils. POWIIS Primary will emulate its secondary counterpart by recruiting staff of a high calibre predominantly from the UK and the international circuit.
