The Spirit of Youth: Exploring live performances in all its diversity

This showcase aims to exhibit Sayfol International School’s finest performers from primary to secondary school under the guidance of our talented performing arts teachers. Our students have worked hard to extend their performance skills as they step out of their comfort zone, and collaborate and engage in new creative processes in a supportive and celebratory environment that enables them to shine. Performances revolve around the themes of confidence, power, self-acceptance and individual expression, as well as overcoming the elements of self-doubt, fear and confusion that are undoubtedly part of the journey towards letting themselves shine. This is the time!

Japanese Book Binding

Handmade books make lovely gifts, and learning to hand-stitch them is easier than you might imagine. A simple running stitch back and front and you very quickly have your own designer notebook. Fun for children and adults alike. Once you have the main contents of the notebook you stitch using a simple technique with either embroidery thread or waxed thread. You can customise the notebook using different types of paper or by adding your favourite stickers. Personalise for yourself or as a gift for a friend. As your creativity grows you can add charming details like a fabric front page and wool as the binding thread make these books feel extra special.

Japanese book binding changes in nature as you alter the materials. Experiment with the paper, the covers, and the binding thread. So many endless and beautiful ways to execute this craft.

For the activity we would prepare the booklets, show the children how to bind – and then allow them to create their own designs to take home.
